On Monday 13th February 2017 around about 5pm there was an extremely hot fire burning on the side of the Port Hills in Christchurch New Zealand .
There were 14 helicopters and 400 homes were evacuated on the Port Hills . Two fixed-wing aircraft fought the blazing fire on Wednesday evening but got stopped when it grew dark .
One helicopter pilot got his monsoon bucket caught on something and died sadly . Also 11 families homes got burnt down because of the massive burning fire.
Lots of roads were closed and the people of Christchurch were terrified especially people who lived on the Port Hills.
The fire also burnt down the back of the Christchurch quarry. It started in a car park.
It took weeks to fight the fire and Sockburn school kids were talking about it and
When heaven saw the massive fire she said ¨OMG it is huge I hope it doesn't come down to the Christchurch town.¨
In a week's time the fire was finally out and people could go home.
